Police arrested three men on Sunday in connection with the gang-rape of a second-year medical student in Durgapur. Authorities identified five suspects, while two others remain on the run. Police continue searching for them.
The student, from Odisha, went out for dinner with a male friend on Friday. Men on motorcycles chased the friend away, dragged the student into a forest, and raped her. They also snatched and discarded her phone.
Police recorded the victim’s statement before a magistrate. Officers are using drones and bicycles to search the forest where the crime occurred. The male friend was detained and questioned about the incident.
The private medical college promised full cooperation with the investigation. The NCW has taken notice and asked the West Bengal DGP for a report within five days. The state health department also requested an official update from the college authorities.
