A fast-track court in Uttar Pradesh’s Mainpuri district has delivered judgment in the nearly 20-year-old case of the kidnapping and murder of Class 10 student Sunil Tomar. The court convicted three accused—Ravi Mishra, Aakrosh Gupta, and Yogendra Kashyap—and sentenced them to rigorous life imprisonment along with a fine of ₹55,000 each.

According to District Government Counsel Pushpendra Singh Chauhan, Sunil went missing on the evening of December 31, 2005. Despite extensive searches, he could not be found. The next day, his body was recovered near Jalalpur village. Following a complaint by Sunil’s brother, Deepu Tomar, five individuals were named in the FIR.

Two of the accused—Shailendra Yadav and Shailendra Kashyap—are still absconding, and their case files have been separated. After completing the investigation, police filed the chargesheet, based on which the fast-track court pronounced the conviction and sentences.
