Toyota Partners With Maharashtra to Upgrade 45 ITIs, Train 8,000 Students

Toyota Kirloskar Motor signs MoU with Maharashtra government to modernise 45 ITIs.

In a significant push toward strengthening skill development and improving job readiness among youth, the Maharashtra Skill Development Department has partnered with Toyota Kirloskar Motor Company to modernise 45 government-run Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) across the state. The initiative was formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed at Mantralay in the presence of Skill Development, Employment, Entrepreneurship, and Innovation Minister Shri Mangalprabhat Lodha.

Under the collaboration, Toyota Kirloskar Motor will set up state-of-the-art laboratories for the Light Motor Vehicle (LMV) Technician trade in selected ITIs. These advanced labs will include modern tools, diagnostic systems, and training equipment aligned with global automotive industry standards. Toyota will also provide specialised training to ITI instructors, ensuring that teaching practices meet international benchmarks. The initiative is expected to benefit nearly 8,000 students, enhancing their employability in the automotive and allied sectors.

The MoU was signed between Vikramji Gulati, Senior Vice President of Toyota Kirloskar Motor Company, and Madhavi Sardeshmukh, Director of the Directorate of Vocational Education and Training. Minister Lodha said the partnership reflects Maharashtra’s commitment to creating a skilled workforce capable of meeting modern industry requirements. He added that several more industry tie-ups are in the pipeline to expand opportunities for ITI students.

Toyota’s installation work for the new labs will begin within two months. Thirteen laboratories will be operational by March 2026 as part of the first rollout. The remaining labs will be completed in phased implementations over the next five years, eventually covering all 45 ITIs under the project.

Minister Lodha emphasised that partnerships with global industry leaders like Toyota will help transform Maharashtra’s ITIs into advanced training hubs capable of producing globally competitive technicians. Senior government officials and Toyota representatives were present during the MoU signing ceremony.
