The Transport Department continued its strict enforcement drive in Puducherry and booked cases against 18 stage carriers for multiple violations. These checks formed part of a larger effort to make local routes safer and more accountable. The ongoing transport drive targets 18 buses to ensure that public service vehicles follow the rules.
A team led by Puducherry Regional Transport Officer Prabhakar Rao carried out inspections at busy commuter points. The operation followed directions from Transport Commissioner A.S. Sivakumar, who has pushed for stronger monitoring of public transport.
Officials found violations related to documentation, safety standards, and permit rules. They also checked drivers for compliance with fitness norms and passenger safety guidelines. Many buses failed to meet the required conditions, prompting the department to take immediate action.
RTO teams plan to continue surprise checks in the coming days. They aim to reduce unsafe practices, improve transport discipline, and protect passengers who rely on public buses for their daily travel.
The department also urged operators to correct violations quickly and maintain their vehicles properly. With these steps, Puducherry hopes to improve road safety and create a more reliable public transport system.
