US President Donald Trump confirmed that American forces launched major combat operations in Iran on Saturday. The announcement came hours after Israel carried out what it called pre-emptive air strikes on Tehran.
In a televised address, Trump said the strikes respond to “imminent threats” from the Iranian regime. He accused Tehran of orchestrating decades of attacks on US interests. “We’re not going to put up with it any longer,” he said.
Trump warned members of Iran’s security forces, including the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, to lay down their weapons. He promised immunity to those who comply and threatened death to those who resist.
He outlined sweeping military objectives. The United States will destroy Iran’s missile capabilities and “annihilate” its navy, he said. Trump acknowledged that American casualties are possible. He described the mission as necessary for future security.
