Trump Calls US “Economic Engine” While Renewing Push on Greenland

U.S. President Donald Trump declared the United States the “economic engine on the planet” in his address at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. He said when the U.S. economy grows, the global economy also benefits, and he claimed many critics were proven wrong about his economic policies. Trump said his policies ended what he called a “dead” economy and sharply boosted growth while reducing inflation.

Trump criticised parts of Europe, saying some places were “not even recognisable” and that the continent was heading in the wrong direction due to policy choices. He added he loved Europe but disagreed with its trajectory.

The president also reiterated his long-standing interest in securing Greenland. He said no nation could defend the territory better than the United States, and he called for negotiations on U.S. acquisition. Trump stressed he would not use military force, though he pressed the strategic case for American control.

Trump defended his use of tariffs and trade deals as tools to strengthen U.S. economic standing. He said these measures had helped recover damages from foreign competition and boosted domestic growth.

The remarks underscored sharp differences with European allies over trade and security policy at this year’s forum.
