Former US President Donald Trump said he recently aced his third cognitive exam as he sought to counter rising questions about his age and mental sharpness. He announced the results on social media on Tuesday night, noting that he completed a series of long and routine medical tests along with the exam.
Trump said he took cognitive assessments on three different occasions, including the latest one in recent weeks. He added that many doctors and experts observed the process. According to him, few people manage to score perfectly, and several past presidents avoided taking the exam.
His comments followed a New York Times report that highlighted his reduced public schedule and moments when he closed his eyes for long periods during meetings. Trump rejected the reporting and accused the newspaper of publishing misleading stories meant to damage his reputation.
He pointed to his first-term cognitive test, the Montreal Cognitive Assessment, where he earned a perfect score. That exam requires tasks such as drawing a clock, copying a cube, and recalling words in sequence.
Trump’s remarks arrived as comparisons with Joe Biden continue. Biden faced repeated scrutiny over his health and ended his reelection effort after a weak debate performance.
