US President Donald Trump linked his Greenland claims to the Nobel Peace Prize in a letter to Norway’s Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store. Bloomberg obtained the letter. Trump wrote that Norway did not award him the prize despite his claim of stopping multiple wars. He said this changed how he would prioritize peace.
Trump also said global security requires complete US control of Greenland. Norway’s prime minister rejected the argument. He clarified that an independent committee awards the Nobel Prize. The Norwegian government has no role in the decision. The White House did not respond to requests for comment.
Trump also warned NATO allies over the weekend. He threatened tariffs on European countries if they oppose his Greenland plans. European leaders reacted with anger. French President Emmanuel Macron called for strong countermeasures. EU ambassadors discussed possible retaliation on US goods worth billions of euros.
Trump repeated claims that Denmark failed to protect Greenland from Russian and Chinese influence. Senior US officials supported this position in media interviews.
Separately, the Nobel Committee rejected attempts to transfer a peace medal to Trump. The committee said prizes cannot be reassigned. Trump’s letter circulated among several European governments.
