Trump Launching G2 with China, India Faces Strategic Balancing Act

U.S. President Donald Trump has announced the creation of a G2 framework with China, intensifying global strategic realignments. This move poses both challenges and opportunities for India’s foreign policy, which has long emphasized a multi-alignment approach.
As External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar once articulated, India’s multi-alignment strategy requires it to “engage America, manage China, cultivate Europe, and reassure Russia.” In the current context, India must now manage relations with the U.S., ensuring that its interests are protected amid U.S.-China cooperation, while engaging China on border, trade, and regional security issues. Simultaneously, India must continue to reassure Russia of its strategic partnership to maintain balance in global diplomacy.

Experts suggest that India should strengthen ties with Europe, ASEAN, and Quad partners to diversify strategic options, safeguarding its autonomy while navigating an evolving international order.
