The Trump administration’s Department of Labor has released a new social media video accusing companies of misusing the H-1B visa program. The video claims that the “American Dream” was stolen from citizens as companies hired lower-paid foreign workers. It highlights that 72% of H-1B visa holders are Indians, followed by 12% Chinese.
The narrator says that, under President Donald Trump and Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer’s leadership, the government is holding companies accountable and restoring opportunities for Americans.
The video also promotes Project Firewall, an H-1B enforcement initiative launched in September. This program aims to protect American workers’ rights, wages, and job opportunities by ensuring employers hire qualified US workers first. Companies found violating the rules may face penalties, pay back wages, or lose access to the H-1B program.
Additionally, Trump signed an executive order adding a $100,000 fee to every new H-1B petition, a move meant to reduce reliance on foreign workers. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has also ordered state universities to stop hiring foreign employees on H-1B visas, insisting they prioritize Americans instead. He urged institutions to improve academic programs if they cannot produce qualified local graduates.
