UK PM Keir Starmer visits YRF before DDLJ’s 30th anniversary, announcing Indo-UK film partnership and job creation.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer visited Yash Raj Films (YRF) Studios in Mumbai ahead of the 30th anniversary of Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ). The visit marked a celebration of India’s global cultural reach and Bollywood’s connection with the UK.

Rani Mukerji, wife of YRF Chairman Aditya Chopra, welcomed Starmer and gave him a tour of the studio. During his visit, Starmer announced a cultural partnership between the UK and YRF. The collaboration will bring YRF’s big productions to British locations from 2026, creating over 3,000 jobs and boosting the UK film economy.

Starmer said, “Bollywood is back in Britain, bringing jobs, investment, and opportunity. This partnership will strengthen our cultural and economic ties.” YRF CEO Akshaye Widhani said the UK has always been close to Indian cinema and thanked the Prime Minister for his visit.

DDLJ, starring Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol, was filmed partly in London. The movie told the story of second-generation Indians in the UK. Starmer’s visit highlighted India’s growing cultural influence and the shared love of cinema between both nations.
