The Union Budget 2026-27 has allocated ₹4,551.94 crore to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting for the coming year. Most of this money will go to Prasar Bharati, India’s public broadcasting body, which runs Doordarshan and All India Radio. These funds will help pay salaries, pensions and operating costs.
A key part of the plan is a scheme to digitalise and expand the radio network, including adding more FM transmittersand upgrading the DTH platform so people can receive more TV channels and have a better viewing experience.
The Budget also includes money for information and publicity work, support for film and media institutes, and programmes to promote Indian cinema and government communication campaigns. There are funds for community radio, which helps reach people in areas where literacy is low.
These investments aim to improve public broadcasting services, support media talent, and strengthen communication across India.
