UP Stops Using Aadhaar

UP stops using Aadhaar as birth proof after UIDAI clarification, marking a major change in how citizens prove their date of birth. UP stops using Aadhaar as birth proof to ensure clarity and prevent document misuse.

The Uttar Pradesh government has ordered all departments to stop accepting Aadhaar cards as proof of birth or date of birth. Planning Department Special Secretary Amit Singh Bansal issued the directive after UIDAI confirmed that Aadhaar is not a birth certificate.

Bansal’s letter referred to UIDAI’s communication stating that Aadhaar cannot verify age or date of birth. He asked senior officials across the state to ensure that every department follows this rule uniformly.

Many departments already avoid using Aadhaar for birth verification. The government now wants consistent compliance across all offices. The order also instructs departments to issue clear instructions so that no office accepts Aadhaar for birth-related proof.

Meanwhile, UIDAI has deactivated more than two crore Aadhaar numbers belonging to deceased individuals. This clean-up aims to protect the accuracy of national identity records and stop misuse of benefits.

UIDAI received verified death data from the Registrar General of India, state governments, Union Territories and welfare programmes. The authority plans to work with banks and other institutions next to prevent identity fraud.
