US Embassy Faces Backlash Over Delayed Response to Delhi Blast

US Embassy Faces

The US Embassy in India is facing criticism for its late and muted response to the car bomb blast near Delhi’s Red Fort that killed nine people. Many Indians accused the embassy of avoiding the word “terrorism” in its condolence post on X.

The embassy wrote, “Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of those who were lost in the terrible explosion in New Delhi last night.” The message appeared nearly a day after the attack.

In contrast, the US Embassy in Islamabad quickly condemned a blast in Pakistan on the same day. Its post described the incident as a “terrorist attack” and expressed solidarity with Pakistan’s fight against terrorism.

The different tone between the two messages angered many Indians. Critics said the US seemed to view terrorism in India through a softer lens. Some also called it a sign of double standards.

Former R&AW chief Vikram Sood urged India to study the US more deeply. He called America a “distant threat” and said its policies often come from fear of losing dominance.

Observers believe the issue may affect how Indians see Washington’s consistency in addressing terrorism in South Asia.
