US Pollster Calls to De-Indianise Tech Firms, Sparking Fierce Backlash

Mark Mitchell, a well-known US commentator and pollster ignited a controversy after urging major American companies to “de-Indianise.” He shared the idea on X, stating that he wants to launch a consultancy to help firms reduce their reliance on Indian professionals.

His post followed earlier remarks on a podcast with Stephen Bannon. Mitchell criticised the rising number of Indian workers entering the United States on H-1B visas. He argued that sending back one senior H-1B developer had the same economic effect as deporting ten undocumented workers. He claimed Indian and other foreign-born engineers dominate Silicon Valley and push American workers out of jobs.

Mitchell said tech companies ignore senior American engineers because cheaper immigrant labour fills roles at lower cost. He described H-1B professionals as a “bottomless well of younger third-world engineers” who replace experienced US staff.

His comments triggered strong reactions online. Many users accused him of targeting an ethnic group and promoting discriminatory ideas. Some argued that he would face harsher consequences if he used similar language against other communities. Others warned that his stance extends beyond visa workers and also affects Indian-Americans born in the United States.
