Uttar Pradesh to Showcase Buddha’s Sacred Relics in Russia
Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya will lead a delegation to Kalmykia, Russia, to exhibit sacred relics of Lord Buddha from September 24 to October 1. The relics, discovered in Piprahwa in 1898, include ancient bone fragments, crystal caskets, and other precious artifacts believed to belong to Gautama Buddha.
This international exhibition aims to promote India’s rich cultural heritage and highlight the message of peace and nonviolence associated with Buddhism. The delegation will also participate in cultural programs and talks designed to strengthen ties between India and Russia through shared spiritual history.
The exhibit is organized in collaboration with Russian authorities and Buddhist organizations, drawing visitors from around the world. The sacred relics hold immense religious significance and are considered some of the oldest physical remains linked to Buddha.
Deputy CM Maurya said, “This exhibition is a symbol of India’s commitment to spreading Buddha’s teachings globally and fostering cultural diplomacy.”
This event also coincides with ongoing efforts to boost religious tourism in Uttar Pradesh, particularly in Buddhist pilgrimage sites such as Sarnath and Kushinagar.
