Uttarakhand CM Dhami Prays for Safety After Chamoli Cloudburst

Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami addressing media after Chamoli cloudburst

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed deep concern after at least 10 people went missing in a Chamoli cloudburst late Wednesday night. The Chief Minister said, “I pray to God for the safety of all,” while directing officials to intensify rescue efforts in the affected villages.

Dhami added that the state government is keeping a close watch on the situation. Teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), police, and local administration have reached the site of the Chamoli cloudburst to search for those missing and assist stranded families.

The cloudburst triggered sudden flash floods that damaged houses, swept away cattle, and blocked rural roads. Villagers reported torrential rains that continued for hours, leaving several communities cut off. Many families have moved to safer locations as heavy rainfall still threatens the region.

The Chief Minister appealed to residents living near rivers and landslide-prone zones to remain alert and follow safety guidelines. He assured that the government will provide relief and rehabilitation support to those affected. Emergency shelters and food supplies are also being arranged in Chamoli district.

Experts from the Meteorological Department have warned of more intense rainfall across Uttarakhand as the monsoon remains active. They stressed that fragile Himalayan terrain increases the risk of flash floods and landslides during such events.

Dhami emphasized that the state will stay on high alert throughout the season. “Saving lives is our top priority,” he said, reaffirming the government’s commitment to disaster preparedness and quick response.

The Chamoli cloudburst has once again highlighted the urgent need for stronger infrastructure, early warning systems, and sustainable development in Uttarakhand’s vulnerable mountain regions.
