Uttarakhand Tourism Boost: $126.4 Million Loan for Tehri Garhwal

Uttarakhand Tourism Boost Tehri Garhwal project

Uttarakhand Tourism Boost will transform Tehri Garhwal with a $126.4 million loan signed between the Union Government and the Asian Development Bank (ADB). The project will develop sustainable and climate-resilient tourism in the Himalayan district.

Tehri Garhwal sits 5,700 ft above sea level. It faces both economic hardship and climate risks. The initiative aims to turn Uttarakhand into a diversified, all-weather tourism destination. It will benefit 87,000 residents and improve facilities for 2.7 million annual visitors.

Funds will be used for upgraded infrastructure, stronger tourism planning, improved sanitation, and modern waste management. The project also includes disaster preparedness measures to protect local communities and visitors.

Tehri Lake, created by the Tehri Dam on the Bhagirathi River, is a highlight of the region. It will get focused development under this plan, boosting eco-friendly tourism activities.

Juhi Mukherjee, Joint Secretary, Department of Economic Affairs, said the loan supports rural growth through tourism. The project promises jobs, cleaner surroundings, and new opportunities for the people of Uttarakhand.
