Vizag Achieves 70% Coverage in Latest Pulse Polio Drive
Visakhapatnam achieved a 70% immunisation rate during the latest Pulse Polio drive, officials reported on December 21, 2025. The campaign, part of the nationwide effort to eradicate polio, focused on vaccinating children under the age of five across the city.
Health authorities said the drive involved door-to-door visits, fixed immunisation booths, and awareness campaigns to encourage participation among parents. Despite logistical challenges in densely populated areas, the teams successfully reached a large number of children, ensuring timely administration of the oral polio vaccine.
Officials highlighted that community involvement, including local volunteers and school staff, played a key role in achieving the 70% coverage. Public awareness initiatives through social media, local radio, and community announcements also helped improve turnout.
Authorities emphasised that while this is a significant milestone, continued efforts are needed to reach full coverage and maintain immunity levels. The next phases of the Pulse Polio programme will target remaining children to move closer to complete eradication of the disease in the city.
