The West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE) has announced a major change for the 2025–26 academic session by cutting the summer vacation from 11 days to just 6 days. As per the new schedule, the break will now run from 11 May to 17 May for all WBBSE-affiliated schools. The board stated that the reduced vacation will help increase classroom time and minimise academic loss.

While the summer break has been shortened, students will get a relief with a continuous 25-day holiday during Durga Puja, Kali Puja, and Bhai Phonta. Meanwhile, the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education (WBCHSE) has introduced strict rules for the 2026 Higher Secondary Exam. The last page of every answer sheet must carry the examiner’s or invigilator’s signature, and no extra supplementary pages will be provided. These measures aim to prevent RTI-related disputes, ensure transparency, and improve exam standards.
