Kolkata: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has flagged 2,208 polling booths in West Bengal for “100% enumeration” during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR), raising concerns over possible discrepancies in voter rolls. The Commission noted that having no deceased voters in booths after 23 years since the last SIR in 2002 is “almost impossible,” calling the data unacceptable.

Strict scrutiny has been ordered for booths returning all enumeration forms or only 1–10 forms, suggesting negligible deceased, absent, or shifted voters. South 24 Parganas leads with 760 such booths, followed by Purulia (228) and Murshidabad (226). CEO Manoj Agarwal directed DEOs, EROs, AEROs, and BLOs to verify entries using official death records, ration card cancellations, house visits, and phone calls.

Polling stations with 0–20 uncollected forms are also under scrutiny. The ECI has opened the roll-back option to correct errors in BLO app entries. Sensitive booths from the 2024 and 2021 elections, as well as those with high progeny mapping, are to receive special attention. Officials emphasised that falsifying information is a punishable offence, and thorough verification will ensure voter roll accuracy ahead of the 2026 Assembly polls.
