An FIR has been filed against acclaimed filmmaker SS Rajamouli after his remarks about Lord Hanuman during the GlobeTrotter event in Hyderabad triggered major outrage. The event, held on November 17, was attended by Mahesh Babu and Priyanka Chopra and was organised for the title reveal of Rajamouli’s upcoming film Varanasi.
The programme faced a technical glitch, leading to delays. Frustrated by the situation, Rajamouli made comments expressing disbelief in gods and questioned why Lord Hanuman did not “take care of things,” despite his family’s devotion. His remarks quickly went viral, angering religious groups.
The Rashtriya Vanara Sena filed a police complaint accusing Rajamouli of insulting Hindu sentiments. Social media users strongly criticised the filmmaker, calling his comments “unacceptable” and demanding an apology. Many accused him of invoking religious sentiments only when convenient while showing disrespect during personal frustration.
The controversy overshadowed the event, which also featured actors Prithviraj Sukumaran, Shruti Haasan, Namrata Shirodkar and Sitara Ghattamaneni. Authorities are currently reviewing the complaint filed against Rajamouli.
