Why 38 Districts Need 46 Counting Centres

Map showing Bihar counting centres across districts

Bihar counting centres increased this year because the Election Commission wanted faster and safer counting. The state has 38 districts, but Bihar counting centres now total 46. Some districts do not have enough space to handle all assembly seats in one place. So, extra centres were created. This helped avoid crowding and made the process smoother.

Each district has different seat numbers. Patna has the highest, with 14 seats. All of them are counted at AN College. The district has enough space, so only one centre is needed. However, Saharsa has only 4 seats, yet it uses 3 centres. The reason is simple: none of its buildings can manage all four seats at once. So, Bihar counting centres are added based on space, not the number of seats.

Several districts such as Purnia, Darbhanga, Muzaffarpur, Siwan, and East Champaran also need more than one counting centre. They face issues like small buildings, high footfall, and limited parking. Multiple centres reduce pressure and help officials work smoothly.

The Election Commission aims to complete early trends by 10 AM and full results by afternoon. More centres make this goal possible. This system also improves security and reduces mistakes during vote counting.
