Sajeeb Wazed, son of ousted Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, said that Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus will not harm his mother. His remarks came after the International Crimes Tribunal in Bangladesh sentenced Hasina to death on charges of crimes against humanity. She currently remains in exile in India.

Speaking to IANS, Wazed said that the current situation in Bangladesh is illegal and unconstitutional. He argued that once the rule of law returns, the case will not stand. Moreover, he stressed that authorities cannot reach Hasina and therefore cannot enforce the sentence.

Wazed strongly criticised the legal process and described the judgment as a complete mockery. According to him, the government has no democratic mandate and changed legal procedures without a functioning Parliament. Additionally, he alleged that 17 judges were removed and replaced with a new judge who previously made biased public comments against Hasina.

He further claimed that the authorities denied Hasina the right to choose her own defence team and appointed lawyers on their own. Trials of this nature in Bangladesh usually run for years. However, this one concluded in just 140 days, which Wazed said shows a lack of due process.

Wazed also questioned Yunus’ global reputation as a Nobel Peace Prize winner. He compared the situation to Aung San Suu Kyi, arguing that political lobbying heavily influences the prize.
