₹700 Crore Package Sought by Kerala to Enhance Tourism Infrastructure

Kerala Tourism Minister Mohamed Riyas has formally requested a ₹700-crore package from the Central government to boost the state’s tourism infrastructure and initiatives. The funds are aimed at enhancing Kerala’s appeal as a global destination, focusing on wellness, eco-tourism, and sustainable travel.
Riyas also expressed hope that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would grace the inauguration of a planned wellness conclave in Kerala, underscoring the event’s significance for the state’s tourism sector. However, the state government plans to schedule the conclave date carefully to avoid clashes with the upcoming local body elections and the associated Model Code of Conduct.
The tourism department sees this funding as vital to reviving the industry post-pandemic and attracting more domestic and international visitors. Kerala continues to position itself as a premier destination for health and nature tourism, leveraging its natural beauty and traditional wellness practices.
