The Bihar Chhath Puja tragedy has left the state in deep sorrow. On the final day of the festival, about 15 people lost their lives in separate drowning incidents at various ghats. The sacred festival, dedicated to the Sun God, saw huge gatherings in districts like Patna, Nalanda, Bhagalpur, Madhubani, and Khagaria.
Nalanda district witnessed the most painful scene, where five people drowned at one ghat and two others went missing. A 13-year-old boy, Vikas Kumar, tragically drowned while cleaning the Junaidi Ghat in Silav. His body was later recovered by the SDRF after four hours of search. Madhubani, Rohtas, Lakhisarai, and Khagaria also reported deaths due to drowning or electrocution.
Despite the festive spirit, these incidents have cast a shadow over the celebration. Devotees performing rituals like Dandavat continued with prayers, seeking blessings for their families. Authorities have urged people to maintain safety while visiting riverbanks during religious festivals.
