Bihar is preparing for a major urban shift through Bihar new township development plans. The state aims to rebuild key cities with modern townships, similar to those in Delhi-NCR and Gujarat. With these Bihar new township development plans, the government wants to improve housing, transport, and public services.
After forming the new government, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar approved several major proposals. Eleven new townships will come up across Bihar. These include divisional headquarters and important towns like Sitamarhi and Sonpur. Cities such as Muzaffarpur, Bhagalpur, Gaya, Darbhanga, Purnia, Saharsa, and Champaran are also in the plan.
The townships will follow the land-pooling model. Landowners will give land for development and receive 55% of the developed land back. The rest of the land will support roads, public transport, hospitals, and housing for low-income families.
The government will also develop satellite towns to support nine divisional headquarters. These townships will improve drainage, waste management, and transportation.
Bihar plans to grow as an Eastern India technology hub. New tech cities, semiconductor parks, fintech hubs, defense corridors, and global capability centres will be developed to support this goal.
