Today marks the 16th anniversary of the passing of Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy (YSR) , the former Chief Minister of undivided Andhra Pradesh, whose welfare programs left a lasting impact on the lives of Telugu people . Known for his extensive padayatra (foot march) in 2004 , YSR led the Congress party to a decisive victory and became Chief Minister , initiating numerous schemes that directly benefited farmers, women, and marginalized communities.

During his tenure, he launched flagship programs such as free electricity for farmers, Jalayagnam irrigation projects, Aarogyasri health insurance, ambulance services, and Abhayahastam , which strengthened social welfare across the state. YSR’s popularity stemmed from his hands-on governance style and focus on rural development.

He secured re-election in 2009, but tragically passed away in a helicopter crash on September 2, 2009 . Today, leaders and citizens alike remember his visionary leadership and the enduring legacy of his welfare initiatives that continue to shape Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
