63 Injured During Jallikattu Events in Two Tamil Nadu Villages

At least 63 people were injured in jallikattu events held in two villages during traditional sports activities in Tiruchi and nearby areas of Tamil Nadu as part of festival celebrations. The sport, in which bull tamers try to hold on to running bulls, drew many participants and spectators. During the contests, several bull tamers, bull owners and onlookers were gored or knocked down by the animals, leading to injuries of varying severity. Many of the injured were treated on site, while others were taken to nearby hospitals for further care. Local police and medical teams were deployed to help manage the crowds and assist the injured. These events are part of seasonal jallikattu competitions that attract large crowds but carry risks because of the close contact between people and bulls. Officials have been urging caution and adherence to safety measures to prevent such injuries during future events
