ECI announces October 24 Rajya Sabha polls in Jammu and Kashmir

The Election Commission of India (ECI) announced elections for four Rajya Sabha seats from Jammu and Kashmir on October 24. The Union Territory has stayed without representation in the Upper House of Parliament since February 15, 2021. This will be the first time in more than four years that the region gets members in the Rajya Sabha. The ECI announces October 24 polls for four Rajya Sabha seats from Jammu and Kashmir as a key step toward restoring representation.

The Commission released the poll schedule on September 24, 2025. Parties can file nominations as per the rules of the Representation of the People Act. Once approved, candidates will contest for four seats.

Political parties in Jammu and Kashmir see this election as a big test. It will decide who speaks for the region in Parliament. National parties also view it as a chance to strengthen their numbers in the Rajya Sabha.

The elections will bring fresh voices from the Union Territory into debates on security, development, and rights. With voting set for October 24, the political stage in Jammu and Kashmir is heating up again.
