Former Mokama MLA Anant Singh acquitted in Patna court ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections. The MP-MLA Special Court cleared him of charges linked to possession of a mobile phone and cigarettes inside Beur Jail in 2022. The case collapsed due to lack of evidence.
The 2022 case began after a raid at Beur Jail, where police claimed to have found phones, cigarettes, and other items. Statements from five witnesses could not prove the charges. His lawyer argued that the case lacked substance, and the court agreed.
Anant Singh, often called a strongman of Bihar politics, has faced multiple cases before. He earlier received bail in the AK-47 case and spent months in jail for a shootout incident. Released last year, he soon prepared to re-enter politics.
Now, Singh has confirmed he will contest the Mokama seat on a JDU ticket. His wife, Neelam Devi, had earlier won the seat on an RJD ticket but later joined the JDU. With this acquittal, Anant Singh’s return to Bihar politics gains fresh momentum ahead of the polls.
