In a bid to provide affordable meals to residents, Minister Ponnam Prabhakar and GHMC Mayor Gadwala Vijayalakshmi inaugurated the Indiramma Canteen Scheme in Motinagar , Hyderabad. Under this initiative, beneficiaries can enjoy a nutritious tiffin for just Rs. 5, making daily meals accessible to all sections of society.
The total cost of breakfast is Rs. 19, with Rs. 14 subsidized by the GHMC. Only Rs. 5 will be collected from participants, ensuring minimal financial burden. The menu for students from U.7 to U.10 includes a variety of popular South Indian dishes such as Idli, Upma, Puri, Vada, and Pongal.
The scheme is being implemented in collaboration with the Hare Krishna Movement, which will assist in food preparation and distribution. Officials highlighted that the initiative aims to combat hunger, promote nutrition, and support low-income families, while creating a model for similar affordable meal programs across Hyderabad.
