Sardar Patel Road to Be Widened at a Cost of ₹45 Crore
The Tamil Nadu government has announced the widening of Sardar Patel Road in Chennai at an estimated cost of ₹45 crore. The project will be executed in two phases, with Phase 1 covering a 1.70 km stretch from IIT Madras to Raj Bhavan.
This phase will be prioritized due to high traffic congestion and its proximity to key institutions and government buildings. The objective is to ease traffic flow, improve connectivity, and enhance commuter safety in one of the city’s busiest corridors.
Officials stated that land acquisition, utility shifting, and environmental clearances are being streamlined to prevent delays. Phase 2 will cover the remaining stretch up to Madhya Kailash.
Once completed, the widened road is expected to significantly reduce travel time and benefit thousands of daily commuters, including students, government officials, and IT professionals.
Work is likely to begin in the coming months.
