Hyderabad: BRS leaders K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) and T. Harish Rao were placed under house arrest by Telangana police ahead of the party’s planned “Chalo RTC Bhavan” protest against the recent hike in RTC bus fares. KTR condemned the police action, stating that he only intended to board an RTC bus peacefully and submit a letter to the Managing Director requesting a rollback of the fare hike.
“To stop one person from boarding a bus, the government deployed hundreds of police officers,” KTR tweeted, criticizing the administration’s heavy-handed approach. He reiterated that the BRS would continue its protests until the increased fares are withdrawn.
Meanwhile, a large number of police personnel were deployed outside Harish Rao’s residence to prevent him from joining the demonstration. The party accused the government of suppressing democratic protests through intimidation and unlawful detentions.
