Bihar Police Vehicle Accident Court Orders Full Compensation

Bihar police vehicle accident compensation news, Patna High Court order in Bihar police vehicle accident, Jamui motorcycle accident involving Bihar police vehicle

A tragic Bihar police vehicle accident claimed the life of a bike rider in Jamui in 2011. The victim, Bhola Yadav, was hit by a police jeep that was chasing another vehicle. After the crash, the policemen fled the spot, leaving the damaged gypsy behind. Locals, angered by the incident, set the police van on fire. This Bihar police vehicle accident deeply affected the victim’s family, who lost their breadwinner.

The Patna High Court has now ordered the Bihar government to pay ₹7.25 lakh as compensation, including interest, to the rider’s wife. The court confirmed that the police jeep was driven rashly and caused the fatal accident. It also noted that although the victim did not have a valid driving license, the negligence of the police driver was the main reason for the death.

Earlier, the Motor Vehicle Accident Tribunal had decided an amount of ₹6.74 lakh with 6% interest, assuming a monthly wage of ₹3,000. The state challenged this order, but the High Court upheld compensation with stricter deadlines.

If the government delays payment beyond December 31, 2025, the interest rate will increase to 9% from January 1, 2026. A further delay beyond March 31, 2026, will add ₹25,000 more. The court also allowed the government to recover the money from officials responsible for the delay.
