In the Varuna village shootout, 40-year-old Akhilesh Rai was killed on Sunday evening. The Varuna village shootout took place near Bikramganj in Sasaram district. Police say he suffered three bullet wounds in the chest and abdomen. His family is in shock, and the village is quiet after the violent attack.
Akhilesh was returning from Bikramganj when unidentified attackers shot him outside the village. Police reached the spot soon after receiving the report. Led by station chief Lalan Kumar, the team began the investigation and spoke to locals.
Police say the violence may be linked to an old rivalry between two groups. Six months ago, Jiyut Rai was shot dead in the same village. Akhilesh was an accused in that case and was out on bail. His body has been sent for a post-mortem in Sasaram.
A search operation is underway to find the killers. SDPO Sanket Kumar stated that STF and technical teams are working to identify and arrest the suspects. Officers recovered five empty shell casings from the location. Police believe the case will be solved soon.
