Liquor smuggling in Bihar was exposed in dramatic fashion when CID officers opened the shutter of a postal parcel vehicle in Lakhisarai. Liquor smuggling in Bihar once again came to light as hidden cartons surprised the police team during the check.
The action followed secret information about a liquor consignment entering Lakhisarai from another state. CID teams, along with local police and Prohibition officials, started vehicle checks near the Tetarhat check post.
During the inspection, officers stopped a four-wheeler postal parcel van. A detailed search revealed 1,612.8 litres of foreign liquor concealed inside multiple cartons. The liquor was seized on the spot.
Two people travelling in the vehicle were arrested immediately. During questioning, they admitted that the liquor was being transported through a parcel vehicle to avoid suspicion.
Officials believe the consignment was meant for illegal sale during Christmas and New Year celebrations in the city and nearby areas.
Due to the seriousness of the case, an Excise Department team from Patna joined the investigation. Police are now questioning the accused to trace others involved in the network.
An FIR has been registered under the Prohibition Act. Superintendent of Police Ajay Kumar said strict action will continue against liquor smuggling in Bihar, and no offender will be spared.
