In the coming years, Bihar railway over bridges will remove one of the biggest travel problems faced by people across the state. Long waits at railway crossings are set to become a thing of the past.
The Road Construction Department has decided to build 217 new railway over bridges (ROBs) and railway under bridges (RUBs) at busy crossings on major roads. The Railway Ministry has already approved the plan. Work has now started at the government level.
Earlier, in May 2019, the state and Railways agreed to build 44 ROBs. Out of these, tenders for 41 were completed and work on 38 was awarded. Three projects are still in the tender stage.
Now, the new decision goes much further. The Centre will bear the entire cost of all new ROBs and RUBs. This brings major financial relief, as the Bihar government will not spend any money on construction.
So far, DPRs for 37 projects have been approved. DPRs for 115 more ROBs and RUBs are under review by the Railway Board.
