The Araria farmer murder has sent shockwaves across the district after a 45-year-old farmer was shot dead in broad daylight on Monday morning.
The victim, Ranjan Yadav, a resident of Ward-7 under Belsara Panchayat in the Raniganj police station area of Araria district, was resting on a cot in the verandah of his house around 10 am. Family members had gone to attend a neighbourhood feast at that time.
According to relatives, two to three armed criminals took advantage of the empty house. They allegedly shot Ranjan Yadav three times while he was asleep. He died on the spot.
Family members said the Araria farmer murder was linked to an earlier dispute. In a previous attack, a bullet had hit near Ranjan’s eye, but he survived after getting timely treatment. An FIR was filed in that case, following which the accused reportedly pressured the family to compromise. They also issued death threats.
Police officials reached the spot soon after receiving information. The FSL team collected evidence, and the body was sent for post-mortem.
Raniganj police said the murder appears to be personal in nature. A detailed investigation is underway, and further action will follow after the FIR is formally registered.
