Political tensions rose in West Bengal on Friday after the BJP flagged violence in Bangladesh and warned voters against a similar future. The Trinamool Congress strongly rejected the comparison and accused the BJP of provoking unrest.

State BJP president Samik Bhattacharya said fundamentalist forces were driving the violence in Bangladesh. He claimed Hindus were being selectively targeted during recent clashes. He urged people to act responsibly to ensure West Bengal never follows that path.

Bhattacharya said radicalism threatens not only Bangladesh but the entire world. He added that extremist forces have expanded their influence since the 1980s. He warned that even liberal voices now face attacks.

The remarks followed the death of Sharif Osman Hadi, a leader of the radical Inquilab Mancha. He died in Singapore after being shot outside a Dhaka mosque earlier this month.

BJP leaders, including Amit Malviya, compared the Bangladesh situation with West Bengal. Malviya said appeasement and weakened institutions lead societies toward collapse.

Trinamool leader Kunal Ghosh reacted sharply to the posts. He called the comparison dangerous and insulting to West Bengal. He demanded legal action against Malviya.

Ghosh said the situation in Bangladesh remains serious and international. He added that the party supports the Government of India’s official position.
