A shocking murder during an alleged robbery has shaken Mohali after the wife of former Additional Advocate General Krishan Kumar Goyal was found strangled at her residence in Phase 5. The incident reportedly took place around 11 pm on Monday night.
The victim, Ashok Kumari Goyal, was alone at home when the crime occurred. Police said the murder was committed with the intention of robbery. The accused fled after stealing jewellery and cash from the house.
The body was discovered on Tuesday morning when the house help arrived for work. At the time, the domestic servant was found tied to a chair inside the house. Police immediately reached the spot and began an investigation.
The servant, identified as Neeraj, has been taken into custody for questioning. He had been working with the Goyal family for nearly nine years. Police grew suspicious after Neeraj claimed robbers hit his head against a wall, but medical checks found no injury marks.
Investigators are also examining why the attackers allegedly killed the homeowner but spared the servant, despite the risk he posed. A forensic team inspected the crime scene and collected evidence.
Krishan Kumar Goyal was not present during the incident. He is currently in Muscat, visiting his daughter. Police said further questioning and forensic reports will clarify the sequence of events.
