Gurmeet Ram Rahim released on 40-day parole after authorities granted temporary relief to the jailed Dera Sacha Sauda chief on Monday. Officials confirmed that the rape convict walked out of Sunaria jail in Rohtak under legal provisions.
According to his counsel, Advocate Jatinder Khurana, the parole follows rules applicable to all convicts. He said Ram Rahim will stay at the Dera Sacha Sauda ashram in Sirsa during the parole period. Khurana stressed that parole remains a statutory right and not a special concession.
Moreover, this is not the first time Gurmeet Ram Rahim has received temporary release. Earlier, authorities granted him a 21-day furlough in April 2025. In fact, since his conviction, he has been released multiple times on parole or furlough, which has often triggered political criticism and security concerns.
In previous years, Ram Rahim received short paroles in 2020 and 2021. Later, in 2022 and 2023, he remained out of jail for extended periods under furlough and parole permissions. Similarly, in 2024, he again secured temporary release.
Meanwhile, Ram Rahim continues to serve a 20-year sentence for raping two of his disciples. Despite repeated paroles, he remains lodged in Sunaria jail once the approved periods end.
The Gurmeet Ram Rahim released on 40-day parole decision is likely to draw fresh political reactions in Haryana and Punjab.
