Policewale hai ya haiwan viral video shows Bihar police beating former ward councillor

The phrase policewale hai ya haiwan is trending after a disturbing video from Bihar went viral on social media. The clip shows police officers brutally beating a former ward councillor during a late-night vehicle checking drive in Madhubani district.

The incident happened on the night of December 31. The victim, identified as Ram Udgaar Yadav, was stopped by police while riding a motorcycle. In the video, officers are seen dragging him to the ground and assaulting him with kicks and shoes. The visuals triggered anger among the public and political circles.

Senior police officials took quick action after the video spread widely. Two police personnel involved in the assault were suspended. The station in-charge was also asked to submit an explanation. Officials said strict action would follow if further violations were found.

Police sources later claimed that the former councillor was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident. He was produced before a court, fined, and released.

The policewale hai ya haiwan controversy has reopened the debate on police accountability and use of force in Bihar.
