Rain in Shimla, fresh snowfall likely as the hill town witnessed steady rainfall on Tuesday, while tourists continued to wait eagerly for fresh snow. At the same time, recent rain and snowfall disrupted daily life across many parts of Himachal Pradesh.
Following an alert from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the local administration remained on high alert. Authorities warned of more rain and snowfall in the coming hours. As a result, road connectivity, electricity supply, and water services suffered in several districts.
Meanwhile, Himachal Pradesh Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi said the precipitation brought relief after a long dry spell. He explained that farmers and horticulturists welcomed the weather, as snowfall occurred in Shimla and Dharamshala, while rain fell in lower regions. These conditions helped ease drought-like situations.
However, the harsh weather also caused widespread disruption. According to official figures, Rain in Shimla, fresh snowfall likely conditions blocked 711 roads, including three national highways. In addition, 861 power transformers and 163 water supply schemes stopped functioning.
Therefore, authorities deployed teams and heavy machinery to restore essential services. The minister urged residents and tourists to avoid higher reaches and follow safety advisories.
Despite the challenges, tourists in Shimla expressed excitement and extended their stays in anticipation of fresh snowfall.
