Hindalco Industries, part of the Aditya Birla Group, will set up a new aluminium extrusion plant in Kuppam, Andhra Pradesh. The company is investing ₹586 crore in the project, which falls in the constituency of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.
The plant will not only make aluminium products but also manufacture iPhone chassis for Apple. Industry sources said the agreement is close to final, though the government has not officially confirmed it. Hindalco has taken over an existing extrusion unit in Kuppam and plans to restart it under the AP Electronics Manufacturing Policy 2025–30.
Construction is expected to finish by 2026, with production starting in 2027. The project will create about 600 jobs. Its location near Foxconn’s Bengaluru facility will help expand smartphone manufacturing in India under the “Make in India” plan.
Until now, India imported iPhone chassis. Local production will reduce imports and boost electronics manufacturing. With improved highways and better links to Bengaluru, Kuppam is set to grow as a major industrial hub.
