Suspected Bangladeshi and Rohingya in Muzaffarpur: 200 People Found Living in Tents

Suspected Bangladeshi and Rohingya in Muzaffarpur living in tents near BMP-6 area

Around 200 people believed to be suspected Bangladeshi and Rohingya in Muzaffarpur are living in temporary tents in different parts of the city. Authorities started an investigation after a confidential report raised concerns about their identity. The suspected Bangladeshi and Rohingya in Muzaffarpur were found staying in nearly 40 tents near the BMP-6 area and along a roadside close to a college campus.

Police formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by a CID officer to verify their documents and background. During questioning, the families said they came from Barpeta in Assam. However, many people could not show valid identity documents to support their claim. Women and children were also seen living in the tents.

The families survive by collecting waste and recyclable items to earn daily income. Reports also say the owner of a nearby vacant plot charges rent for each tent set up on the land.

Officials have submitted a preliminary report to senior police authorities. Further action will depend on the findings of the investigation and instructions from the government.
