Tejashwi Yadav speaking during a rally after Bihar poor state remark

The Bihar poor state remark by Tejashwi Yadav has triggered a political controversy. During a campaign speech in Kerala, the RJD leader described Bihar as the poorest state in India while comparing it with Kerala’s progress in health and education. The Bihar poor state remark quickly became a topic of political debate.

Leaders of the Janata Dal (United) strongly criticized the statement. They said the comment insulted the people of Bihar and demanded that Tejashwi Yadav apologize for his words.

JDU state president Umesh Kushwaha also attacked Yadav’s family. He claimed that Tejashwi’s parents, Lalu Prasad Yadav and Rabri Devi, were responsible for damaging Bihar’s economy when they ruled the state.

Tejashwi Yadav made the statement while campaigning in Kerala for candidates supported by his party, the Rashtriya Janata Dal, which is contesting a few assembly seats in alliance with the Left Democratic Front.
