Under the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana, about one crore Jeevika Didis in Bihar will receive life insurance coverage this year. The state government plans a large enrollment drive to ensure that more rural women get financial security through the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana and other related schemes.
The campaign will start after 15 April across all gram panchayats. Officials aim to cover women who are still outside the insurance network. At present, nearly 72 lakh Jeevika Didis already have insurance coverage. The special drive is called the “Bima Suraksha Utsav.”
Two government schemes will provide the coverage. Under the scheme, women aged 18–50 will pay ₹436 annually and their families will receive ₹2 lakh in case of natural death. Another scheme offers accident insurance for women aged 18–70 with only ₹20 annual premium.
If both schemes apply in an accident case, families can receive up to ₹4 lakh as financial support. The insurance coverage will become effective from 1 June and remain valid for one year.
