Model Solar Village Plan in Bihar to Cut Electricity Bills

Model Solar Village Plan in Bihar rooftop solar panels in village homes

Bihar will soon see a major push for clean energy through the Model Solar Village Plan in Bihar. The state government plans to develop one model solar village in every district to promote solar power and reduce electricity bills. Officials say the initiative will encourage villagers to install rooftop solar panels and shift toward renewable energy.

Under the Model Solar Village Plan in Bihar, districts will identify suitable villages where residents actively adopt solar energy. In Banka district, authorities have already shortlisted 11 villages as possible candidates for the project. The selected village will become a model for others in the district.

The plan will work alongside the PM Surya Ghar scheme. Households installing rooftop solar systems can receive subsidies of up to ₹78,000. Banks may also provide loans up to ₹2 lakh at around 7% interest to help families install solar panels.

Officials aim to reduce dependence on conventional electricity and help villages move toward near-zero power bills. Awareness campaigns and special camps will guide residents on how to apply for the scheme.
