Gopalganj GNM School Marriage Ban Revoked After Controversy

Gopalganj GNM school marriage ban revoked after controversy over nursing students marriage rule

The Gopalganj GNM school marriage ban revoked after strong criticism from students, parents, and officials. The controversial notice had warned nursing students not to marry during their training period.

The Gopalganj GNM school marriage ban revoked decision came after health authorities reviewed the order. Officials said no rule allows an institute to restrict a student’s right to education based on marital status.

The issue started on April 16 when a notice from the Hathua General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) School in Bihar’s Gopalganj district told female students not to marry during the academic session. The notice warned that the college would cancel the enrolment of any student who married during training.

The order quickly triggered criticism on social media and among students’ families. Many argued that educational institutions cannot interfere in personal decisions like marriage.

After the controversy grew, the civil surgeon cancelled the directive and ordered an inquiry. Authorities also sought an explanation from the principal who issued the notice.

The principal later clarified that the message aimed to encourage students to maintain attendance and focus on studies. She admitted that there is no official rule banning marriage during nursing training.
